We get asked regularly if London is accessible

Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 obliges businesses, employers and organisations to make reasonable changes so disabled people aren’t put at a significant disadvantage compared with non-disabled people.

Practically, this involves:

  • Removing physical obstacles where possible
  • Offering alternative access solutions when removal isn’t possible
  • Allowing safe, independent entry and exit from buildings

In many buildings this applies to entrances, level changes, corridors and emergency escape routes—areas where ramps and handrails are often essential

Lets start with the London Underground

This handy map will help you to understand what is step free from the train and / or street level

This additional page will guide you on where ramps are available to use

Can I take my wheelchair on a bus?

Yes you can. Most London buses are designed to emit a ramp at the rear doors when the driver sees a passenger with accessibility needs. A dedicated space is available for wheelchairs and strollers to occupy

What about a taxi?

The famous London 'Black Taxi' drivers are part of what makes this city so great. Most London taxis will have a ramp on hand and a willing driver to support getting you and your wheelchair or scooter or stroller on board safely. London's newer taxis have big wide doors and an open area ideal for accessibility needs

But could I take a scooter on a boat, in the sunshine, to ride down the Thames?

The Mulvihill family would say yes to that too*

All of our scooters are class 2 and accessible for many of London attractions.

*Sunshine isnt guaranteed, this is London....
